SNP; Showcasing the Milky Way at Big Meadows

SNP Showcasing the Milky Way at Big Meadows

I’ve always been interested in our night sky. As a Pisces, I’m a dreamer at heart and there is nothing more romantic than making a wish upon a star.  I’ve always wanted to photograph the night sky and have made a few attempts in the last few years but living in the suburbs guarantees a lot of light pollution and not a lot of visibility with trees, buildings, power lines, etc.

A weather forecast predicting a clear sky and potential to view the Milky Way tempted me to head out to Shenandoah National Park in the middle of the night.  It was such a beautiful clear night and amazing sight.  I love viewing the night sky in Shenandoah as it is a rarity to see the stars with such depth and clarity where I live.  In SNP,  you can see the night sky without as much light pollution that exists in the city and suburbs.  I took a few exposures with the prominent trees and decided to take a few with my Jeep to show perspective.  It’s so tiny compared to that vast sky.  I hope to photograph the night sky as much as possible in the upcoming spring and summer months.
